Hours & Location

  • Hours: September – June (school Year)
    Monday – Friday: 8:00 AM – 9:30 AM; and 2:30 PM – 4:00 PM

Position Overview

Under the general supervision of the Manager of Public Works and Environmental Services/or their designate the incumbent is responsible for the safe movement of pedestrians to and from when crossing public roadways and intersections by observing gaps in the traffic and leading the public across the roadway or intersection, during peak times (to and from school).

Training Cost Recovery

The Township of Asphodel-Norwood has a training cost recovery policy in place for new recruits.

The Recruit Course through the Eastern Ontario Emergency Training Academy (EOETA) costs the Township approximately $3,500. If a recruit resigns within the first three (3) years of service, reimbursement of training costs will be required as follows:

Length of Service Reimbursement Required
Less than 12 months 100% of EOETA costs
More than 1 year but less than 2 years 50% of EOETA costs
More than 2 years but less than 3 years 25% of EOETA costs
More than 3 years No reimbursement required

The Township of Asphodel-Norwood is seeking a qualified and motivated individual for the full-time position of Water and Wastewater Operator (Contract – 12 Months).

Under the direction of the Water and Wastewater Operations Manager, the Water and Wastewater Operator is responsible for assisting with the operation and maintenance of the Township’s:

  • Water Treatment Plant
  • Water storage and distribution systems
  • Wastewater Treatment Facility
  • Wastewater collection system
  • Sanitary pumping stations

The successful candidate will help ensure compliance with Provincial Drinking Water Regulations, Environmental Compliance Approvals, related legislation, and standards established by Council.

Qualifications and Requirements

Applicants should possess:

  • Successful completion of the written examination for:
    • Minimum Class I Water Treatment; and
    • Minimum Class I Wastewater Treatment
      (Operator in Training (OIT) candidates will be considered)
  • Related experience in a municipal water or wastewater environment considered an asset
  • Successful completion of a post-secondary diploma in a related field
  • A satisfactory Criminal Record Check
  • A valid Ontario Class G Driver’s Licence with abstract

Compensation

  • Salary Range: $30.22 – $35.98 per hour
    (based on a 40-hour work week)
  • 4% vacation pay paid per pay period
  • Optional enrollment in the OMERS pension plan
