How to Volunteer

Thank you for your interest in volunteering with the Township of Asphodel-Norwood.

Boards and Committees provide advice and recommendations to Council. Most committees include members of the community, as well as Council members with support from Township staff.

Volunteering on a board or committee is a great way to:

  • meet new people, and share your ideas and talents;
  • provide input into the strategic direction of the Township; and
  • make a difference in your community.

Applications for Township boards and committees are only accepted when a vacancy is formally advertised by the Township. Vacancies are advertised through the Township’s regular communication channels.

When a vacancy is advertised, interested residents may apply by submitting a completed Application Form in accordance with the posted instructions.

In addition to any other qualification requirements established by resolution of Council, or the Board & Committee Terms of Reference; any persons appointed to a Board or Committee must provide the Township Clerk with:

  • a valid Criminal Record & Judicial Matters Police Check

*Any costs incurred in obtaining a police check will be reimbursed by the Township.

With the exception of the Municipal Election Compliance Audit Committee and the Provincial Appointee to the Police Services Board; Boards and Committees of Council appointments are on a volunteer basis. No per diems are paid.

Once application submission deadlines have closed, application forms are reviewed by Council during a closed session as personal information is discussed.

Successful applicants are notified by the Township Clerk.

Terms are established within the Terms of Reference for each board and/or committee, and could range from two (2) to four (4) years.
