Public Notice: Temporary Increase in Wastewater Treatment Odours

The Township is aware of stronger-than-usual wastewater treatment odours around the community this year and appreciates residents’ patience while necessary maintenance and repairs are completed.

As part of this work, two tanks had to be emptied and cleaned. The older biosolids removed from the tanks are being temporarily stored in open digesters before being transferred to the biosolids storage tank. This temporary storage is the primary cause of the increased odour.

Staff had begun transferring the material to the storage tank; however, the pump used to mix the tank experienced a seal failure and had to be sent away for repair. The pump is expected to be returned within the next two weeks. Once it has been repaired and reinstalled, staff will resume transferring the biosolids to the storage tank, which is expected to reduce the odour.

The Township recognizes that the odour is unpleasant and apologizes for the inconvenience.

Staff are working to complete the process as soon as possible and thank residents for their patience and understanding.
