Applications Open: 2026 Municipal Election Compliance Audit Committee
Applications are now open for the 2026 Municipal Election Compliance Audit Committee for lower-tier municipalities in Peterborough County.
The Committee plays an important role in supporting transparency and accountability in municipal elections by reviewing and making decisions on campaign finance-related applications.
Application Deadline: Friday, July 24, 2026 at 12:00 p.m.
Purpose
A Compliance Audit Committee is an independent statutory body that reviews and decides on applications for audits of municipal election campaign finances.
The Committee’s authority includes:
- reviewing applications and granting or rejecting audit requests;
- appointing an auditor, if an application is granted;
- receiving and considering the auditor’s report;
- considering reports from the Clerk identifying contributors who appear to have contravened election contribution limits; and
- deciding whether legal proceedings should be commenced.
Key Qualifications
Committee members should be familiar with the Municipal Elections Act, 1996 and have a financial, accounting, auditing, or legal background.
Eligibility Restrictions
The Municipal Elections Act, 1996 prohibits the following persons from serving on a Compliance Audit Committee:
- employees or officers of the municipality or a local board;
- members of council or a local board;
- candidates in the 2026 Municipal Election; and
- registered third party advertisers in the 2026 Municipal Election.
Committee Composition
The Committee will be composed of three (3) to seven (7) members.
Term of Appointment
The term of appointment will end on November 14, 2030.
Remuneration
Committee members will receive $90.00 per meeting, based on a three-hour minimum.
Additional time will be compensated at a rate of $30.00 per hour. Mileage will be paid in accordance with the approved mileage rate.

The Compliance Audit Committee will serve the following municipalities:
- Municipality of Trent Lakes
- Township of Asphodel-Norwood
- Township of Cavan Monaghan
- Township of Douro-Dummer
- Township of Havelock-Belmont-Methuen
- Township of North Kawartha
- Township of Otonabee-South Monaghan
- Township of Selwyn
