Municipal Election 2026 · Nomination Period Now Open
The nomination period for the 2026 Municipal and School Board Election is now open.
Candidate Information Packages are available at the Municipal Office.
Candidate Qualifications
To be eligible to run for municipal office, you must be:
- A Canadian citizen;
- At least 18 years of age;
- A resident of the Township of Asphodel-Norwood; or a non-resident of the Township who, or whose spouse, owns or rents property in the Township;
- Not legally prohibited from voting; and
- Not disqualified by any legislation from holding municipal office.
Nomination Period
Nominations for the offices of Mayor, Deputy Mayor, and Councillor may be filed:
- From: May 1, 2026
- Until: 2:00 p.m. on August 21, 2026 (Nomination Day)
Appointments are required to file a nomination.

School Board Trustee Nominations
Individuals wishing to run for School Board Trustee must file their nomination with the appropriate municipality:
- Public School Board: Township of Cavan Monaghan
- Catholic School Board (Peterborough Victoria Northumberland and Clarington): Township of Selwyn
- French Language Public and Catholic School Boards: City of Oshawa
Third Party Advertisers
Registration for third party advertisers opens May 1, 2026.
Registration papers must:
- Be signed by an authorized representative; and
- Be filed in person or by an agent at the Clerk’s Office during regular business hours.
The registration period closes at 4:30 p.m. on October 23, 2026.
All registration documents, including the Declaration of Qualification, must be certified by the Clerk before the individual or entity is authorized to act as a registered third party advertiser.
