ICI Recycling Service at Transfer Station ending August 15, 2026

Effective Saturday, August 15, 2026, the Township will discontinue the Industrial, Commercial and Institutional (ICI) recycling bin service at the Asphodel-Norwood Transfer Station.

When Ontario’s new producer-responsibility recycling program came into effect on January 1, 2026, recycling generated by non-eligible ICI properties was excluded from the residential Blue Box program. These properties became responsible for arranging and managing their own recycling services.

To help local businesses and institutions during the transition, the Township temporarily provided two dedicated ICI recycling bins at the Transfer Station. However, use of the bins has remained very low and has not supported the continued cost of the service.

Following Council’s consideration of a staff report at its July 28, 2026 meeting, Council approved discontinuing the temporary service.

What does this mean?

  • After August 15, 2026, recycling from non-eligible ICI properties will no longer be accepted at the Transfer Station.
  • Affected businesses and institutions must arrange for recycling collection and processing through a private service provider.
  • Residential Blue Box recycling will continue to be accepted at the Transfer Station.

The discontinuation of the ICI service will also allow the Township to explore using the existing bins to provide additional capacity for residential recycling.
