Spring Thaw Reminder: Flood Preparedness and Sump Pump Maintenance

As temperatures begin to warm and snow begins to melt, water levels can rise quickly and create conditions that increase the risk of localized flooding.

Residents are reminded that the Township has a Sandbag Policy in place that outlines the process by which municipal staff will respond to flooding events within the municipality.

Sump Pump Maintenance Reminder

Rapid snow melt and warming temperatures can make foundations more prone to leaking and increase the likelihood of water infiltration into basements.

Residents are encouraged to take the following preventative steps:

• Ensure your sump pump is turned on and operating properly
• Confirm that your sump pump has adequate backup power in case of power outages
• If your basement is susceptible to water infiltration, consider keeping a spare sump pump available
