Blue Box Recycling |
Recycling is collected every week by Emterra, contracted by the County of Peterborough, on behalf of the Township. Recycling must be at the curb, on the day of pick-up, by 7:00 a.m. in a clearly visible area. If you would like to purchase a blue box ($6.00) or Blue in the Loo ($3.00 recycle bin for the bathroom), please contact the Municipal Office.

Composter & Digester |
To purchase a composter ($30.00) or digester ($55.00 with county incentive or $75.00 without county incentive), please contact the Municipal Office.
Digesters are similar to composters but are able to process a wider variety of items. The digester install guide will give more information on their use and installation.

Garbage Collection |
As of September 1, 2018 the Township of Asphodel-Norwood adopted a Clear Bag Program. Since that time, the Township of Asphodel-Norwood has earned the second highest waste diversion percentage in the County of Peterborough. Please see the 2019 Diversion Report for full details.
Garbage is collected every week by Waste Connections of Canada Inc. on behalf of the Township. Garbage must be at the curb, on the day of pick-up, by 7:00 a.m. in a clearly visible area.
Residential households can place up to 2 bags per collection and commercial businesses can place up to 6 bags per collection. Each bag of garbage requires a tag at a cost of $2.00 each.

Clear Bag Program |
The Township of Asphodel-Norwood adopted a clear garbage bag program on September 1, 2018. For more information, please visit our Clear Bag Program page.
The Township is able to accommodate special medical circumstances. Residents may apply for an exemption from the clear bag waste collection policy. It is the responsibility of the resident to to renew their exemption status each year.

Household Hazardous Waste can contain toxins that are harmful to waste collectors and the environment. Please take proper measures to dispose of these materials at the City/County Household Hazardous Waste Facility, located at 400 Pido Road, Peterborough.

Transfer Station |
Address: 187 County Road 40, Norwood
Hours of Operation Saturday 8:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. Monday 8:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. Wednesday 4:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. (June 1-September 30 ONLY)
The following protocols are in place:
- Only 3 vehicles will be permitted within the site at one time – please be patient
- No mattresses or empty liquor/wine bottles will be accepted
- Recycling, household waste, leaf and yard, scrap metals, bulky items, construction and demolition material, and electronics will be accepted
- Debit or Interac payment only
- Gates close sharp at posted final hour – no exceptions
We encourage residents to utilize the curbside pickup services available.
The Asphodel-Norwood transfer station is open to Asphodel-Norwood residents (photo identification is required). For fees, please see the Fees and Charges By-Law.

Mattress Collection |
We are not accepting mattresses at this time.
The Township of Asphodel-Norwood has a mattress recycling program at the transfer station site.
Mattresses are collected and stored in a dry container where later they are reloaded by Township staff and shipped to the Bensfort Road Landfill site in Peterborough. The mattresses are then loaded into tractor trailers, where they are then taken to a recycle facility.
The cost to dispose of a mattress is $25.00 per piece or $50.00 for a mattress and box spring set.

Tire Collection |
Used tires can be dropped off at the transfer station free of charge. Please be prepared to check in with the landfill attendant and notify of how many tires are being dropped off.
You will also need to supply your name and phone number to the attendant.
The Township of Asphodel Norwood is mandated by the Ontario Tire Stewardship (OTS) program to log standard information regarding each tire collected as well as the individual who is dropping them off.
Please note that there may be some changes to this program in the near future.
