Having a licensed tag for your dog is one of the most responsible and caring things you can do for your beloved pet. Your dog license tag contains information registered with the Township in the event your pet ever gets lost. With this information the Township can reunite you with your pet as quickly as possible, while protecting and respecting your privacy.

Animal Shelter for domestic animals impounded within the Township of Asphodel-Norwood is provided by the Northumberland Humane Society. |
Cat By-law |
The Township has a by-law to provide for the regulating restricting, prohibiting cats causing nuisance or damage in the municipality. Please refer to Cat By-law 2017-48 for more information. |
Dangerous Animals By-Law |
The Township has a by-law to regulate or prohibit the keeping of Restricted and/or Dangerous Animals. Please refer to Dangerous Animals By-law 2017-46 for more information. |
Dog Control By-law |
The Township has a by-law to provide for the regulating, restricting, licensing, prohibiting dogs running at large and for providing kennel operational guidelines for control of all dogs in the Township. Please refer to Dog Control By-law 2022-48 as found in the Frequently Requested By-laws page for more information. |
Dog Owners Liability Act |
The Dog Owners Liability Act came into effect in 1990. It was amended in August 2005 to include broader powers to deal with dangerous dogs in general, as well as a ban on pit bulls. |

Lifetime Dog tags are available through the Municipal Office. Fees
Annual invoices are due by April 30 each year. Penalties Effective May 1 annually, an administrative fee of $5.00 will be applied to your account for unpaid fees. In addition, a monthly penalty of 1.25% will be applied to accounts over 30 days in arrears. |
Kennels |
Any person or persons who keep more than three (3) dogs, aged six (6) months and over, at one location, must obtain a Kennel Licence. Please refer to Section 8 of the Dog Control By-law 2022-48 as found in the Frequently Requested By-laws for more information; and Schedule B of said By-law for an Application for a Kennel Licence. Note: Herding Dogs and/or Livestock Guardian Dogs actively used in bona fide farming operations are exempt from Dog Control By-law 2022-48; however, registered farm owners are asked to notify the Municipality of the number and type of dogs kept on the premises. |
Muzzle By-law |
The Township has a by-law to regulate the restraining and muzzling of a biting dog or potentially dangerous dog under any circumstances that is deemed a health or safety issue of the inhabitants of the municipality. Please refer to Muzzle By-law 2016-77 for more information. |
Rabies Clinic |
Rabies clinics are offered through Peterborough Public Health (PPH). |
