What is Health Connect Ontario (Health811)?

Health Connect Ontario (Health811) replaced Telehealth Ontario in April 2022. It is free and available 24/7: 

• online and;
• by phone (call 811 or TTY:1-866-797-0007).

Access safe, high-quality care, and avoid unnecessary visits to the emergency room. 

Health811 does not replace your family physician. In a medical emergency, call 911 immediately.

How does Health Connect Ontario (Health811) work?

You have the option to:

• Find a Health Service;
• Check your Symptoms;
• Get a Health Advice (Chat online); and
• Search the Medical Library.

At any time during the chat, you can enter your phone number and ask for a call back. Combining chat with a phone call is helpful if your enquiry is complex and easier to discuss verbally.

You can use the live chat when you have health-related questions or concerns, for example:

• illness or injury that may need medical care
• illnesses that don’t go away or keep coming back
• support to help you quit smoking
• nutrition and healthy eating
• teen health and issues
• mental health concerns
• breastfeeding support
• refugee health support
• medical assistance in dying support

The chat service is not to be used for medical emergencies. In an emergency, call 911 or visit the closest hospital emergency department. For poisonings, contact Ontario Poison Centre at 1-800-268-9017. For all other enquiries (i.e. questions that are not urgent and health-related) chat can be used.

When should I use Health Connect Ontario (Health811)?

When you have a general health question and not sure what to do, access Health Connect Ontario (Health811) online or by phone. Within minutes, your questions will be answered, providing you with peace of mind.

Connect with Health Connect Ontario for assistance with a variety of health-related questions and concerns. For example:

• You are feeling unwell and unsure what to do about it.
• You have a headache that won’t go away.
• Your child feels warm and may be running a fever.
• You wish to speak to someone about a loved one with dementia.
• You need information about healthy eating.
• You noticed a rash that wasn’t there the day before.
• You recently had surgery and have a question about how to take care of yourself after the operation.
• You are concerned about your mental health and want to speak with a professional.
• You are seeking information about health services in your area.
• You have a chronic condition like diabetes and want advice on how to manage it at home.

An added service to Health Connect Ontario (Health811) is when you need to find health services such as if you need to find a new doctor near you. You can also search an online medical library to learn more about medical terms or conditions when you visit Health Connect Ontario.

The Road Ahead is Canadian Mental Health Association Haliburton, Kawatha, Pine Ridge (CMHAHKPR) new Mobile Mental Health and Addictions Clinic. The mobile clinic brings a full range of mental health and addictions services to individuals living in rural and remote areas and who face barriers to accessing existing services and supports.

The clinic operates out of two (2) vehicles that travel throughout the City of Kawartha Lakes, Haliburton, Peterborough and Northumberland Counties, providing:

• Counselling and therapy
• Support with addictions and substance use
• Health and mental health education
• Medication support
• Access to other supports including psychiatry

Services are flexible and responsive to the specific needs and challenges of individuals living in rural communities.

The mobile clinic is at the Asphodel-Norwood Community Centre every other Friday, from 9:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Healthcare Needs Assessment Form

Peterborough County announces the launch of the new Healthcare Needs Assessment form. This innovative tool is designed to gather crucial insights directly from the residents of Peterborough County, forming the cornerstone of our strategic plan for the future of healthcare in our region. Every household is encouraged to participate and have their voice heard.

The Healthcare Needs Assessment form serves multiple purposes.

1. Firstly, this assessment will provide invaluable feedback on other health and human services desired by our communities, facilitating the development of comprehensive healthcare solutions closer to home.
2. Additionally, it allows residents to register their need for a primary care provider and will act as the official list for Peterborough County residents without a family practitioner.

Key Points:

• ️️️️By adding your name to this list, there is NO requirement of de-rostering from your current physician to be considered.
• By adding your name to the list there is no guarantee of securing a family physician.
• If a waiting list currently exists at your township, local medical facility, or you are registered on Healthcare Connect, this list will replace it, so please complete this form EVEN IF you feel you are already registered.
• Only one form per household is required unless family members have different healthcare situations, then multiple forms can be completed.
